The Fitbit Charge is an upgrade to the Fitbit Flex and introduces a very much needed OLED display. During my time with the Charge I tried to keep things as normal as possible while pushing the capabilities of the band at the same time. I wore it 24 hours a day and everywhere I went. This included the gym, shower, ice hockey and sleep. The Charge can track track your steps, distance, calories, floors climbed, sleep and active minutes. With the new display it also tells you the time, has a caller ID feature and can be a silent alarm.
Fitbit Charge Review – Pros, Cons and Features
Fitbit Charge Pros
The Charge is made of a soft rubbery material that feels very comfortable on the wrist. The clasp that holds the band together is made of a good quality metal which connects very easily. The OLED screen is probably the biggest upgrade and having the ability to check your activity on the go without using the app is great. I found that this kept me on track and motivated to do more. The screen also displays the time and has a caller ID feature which was very useful when your phone is on silent. For people who need motivation the Fitbit Charge will more then pay for itself. The sleep tracking once again is awesome! I find that this is one of my favourite features that tracks your restless sleep, deep sleep and times you wake up. I took the Charge with me to the gym and once again the tracking was not the best but I could tell it has improved from the original Fitbit Flex. You can still implement things in the App but it is no longer so heavily dependant. The FitBit app is great as it should be with easy to read statistics and extra abilities that add to the experience. If you aren’t a fan of the Fitbit app you can use many other popular apps that work great with the Charge. You can find the list of compatible apps on their website.
Fitbit Charge Cons
The biggest con once again is the over tracking of steps from regular movements. It has improved as I said above but a car ride, typing on the computer or things that involve movement will sometimes add additional steps. This can be combated with the app by adding in various activities at the times to avoid steps. The Fitbit Charge is an improvement over the Flex but in my opinion is still for people who are just starting out or for people who need motivation. As I wore the Charge to the gym, workouts, hockey and more advanced activities, I found it to be almost overwhelmed. It could not accurately track what I was doing and I would have to constantly input my activities into the app.
As a whole the Fitbit Charge is a great improvement over the Flex. While tracking isn’t quite up to some peoples expectations, it has improved to be accurate enough to tell you that you need to do more. The display is a huge improvement and alone would be enough to sway many people to purchase the Fitbit Charge. For people who very active already I would not recommend this band for you. If you are someone who is just getting started with being active or just need motivation the Fitbit Charge is going to be a huge help to you. For people who workout regularly it could still be a good companion to have as well. When you consider it has a caller ID feature, sleep tracking and doubles as a watch it isn’t half bad. All in all for the price you are getting a great fitness band that will help you stay motivated and track your activities.
